A recent study conducted by the World Wildlife Fund found that there are over 1,000 different names for the jaguar. The study aimed to better understand the public’s perception of the big cat and how it varies from region to region. In North America, for example, the jaguar is often called a “panther,” while in South America it is more commonly referred to as a “tiger.”
Interestingly, although the jaguar is found in many different parts of the world, its name is not universally recognized. For example, while “jaguar” is commonly used in English-speaking countries, it is known as “el tigre” or “el león” in Spanish-speaking countries.
The WWF study also found that there are many misconceptions about the jaguar.
