Zero Conditional Sentences

Structure: If + present simple, …. present simple.

Examples

• You get water(H20) if you mix hydrogen and oxygen.
• When you heat ice, it melts.
• When it rains, the grass gets wet.
• The grass gets wet when it rains.
• The grass gets wet if it rains.
• Snakes bite if they are scared
• Plants die if they don’t get enough water.

Structure: If + Present Simple and will + Infinitive

Examples:  

• You must get the burger if you go to that restaurant.

Structure: If + Past Simple and Would + Infinitives

• If she saw a snake, she’d be terrified.
• If she fell, she would hurt herself.
• If it rained, you would get wet.
• If I were rich, I’d spend all my time travelling.
• If I had more time, I’d exercise more.
• If I were you, I would quit smoking.
• If I were the president, I would lower taxes.
• If I knew his name, I would tell you.
• If I had enough money, I would buy a house.

3^rd Conditional Sentences

Structure: if + past perfect and would + have + past participle

Examples

• You could have assist me if you’d stayed later.
• You would have succeed if you had worked harder.
• You would have gotten wet if it had rained.

• What would you have studied if you hadn’t done Mechanical Engineering?
• She wouldn’t have been tired if she had gone to bed earlier
